Brass band boost fundraising for breast cancer research

Brass-playing women who have raised more than £150,000 towards finding a cure for cancer will be performing at a music and real ale festival.

The band, which performs under the name of Boobs & Brass, have had nine members diagnosed with breast cancer since launching seven years ago.

This dedicated band will launch a Music & Real Ale weekend, run by Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band and Raw Brewery, at Parkside Community School, Chesterfield from June 12 to 14.

Their concert is on Friday at 8pm. Tickets £6.

Events over the weekend will include a solo and duet contest on Saturday daytime and a ‘World Tour’ concert by Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band in the evening.

The ninth annual battle of the bands contest will take place on Sunday.

If brass isn’t your thing, there will be more than 20 real ales and ciders on offer throughout the weekend.
