Blues Blues Awards finalist Alex McKown plays hometown gig in Glossop

Glossop blues sensation Alex McKown will play his first public gig in his home town this weekend.

Finalist in the British Blues Awards for the fifth year on the trot, 19-year-old Alex has been playing at festivals up and down the country.

He said: “The band have played in Glasgow, Wales and on the South Coast this year but it will be great to play a local show.”

Alex will be playing at Glossop Golf Club on Saturday, September 19, at 8.30pm. His band comprises saxophonist Simon Peat, Guitar And Vocals - Alex McKown, keyboard player Joel White, bassist Lee Buckle and drummer Martin Schofield.

Alex`s album, Go with the Flow was recorded at Superfly Studios. Tracks have been played on radio stations all over the world including the famous Paul Jones R&B show on BBC radio 2 .

In addition Alex is featured on compilation CDs “The Cream of Electric Blues” and “Suit Case Full O’Blues”, together with artists such as Joe Bonamassa, Walter Trout and Robert Cray.

Alex first picked up the guitar at the ages of six and began having lessons at Tameside Music Academy when he was 11.

He developed his performance skills at the blues/rock jam at The Whittles in Oldham.

Alex hooked up with blues artist Hamilton Loomis from Texas on the internet and Hamilton agreed to let Alex sit in on his UK tour in 2009.
