The Winter’s Tale, which will be performed on Friday June 14 at 7.30pm and Saturday June 15 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, mixes tragedy, comedy, romance and music in a thrilling journey from winter to spring, from tragedy to hope.

Director Robbie Carnegie said: “For a number of years now, members of Buxton Drama League have been performing excerpts from the Bard in the open air in The Shakespeare Jukebox, so I felt maybe it was time to take the bull by the horns and put on a full-length play.”

Follow the classic tale as jealousy unhinges the mind of King Leontes (Jim Gillespie), causing him to denounce his wife, Hermione (Sara Gray), order the murder of his best friend (Dick Silson) and cast out his baby daughter. But, as time moves on and the seasons change, what was lost might just be found again, and chance, forgiveness and a touch of magic can make matters right.

Robbie added: “Members of the Drama League have risen to the challenge of what promises to be an unforgettable performance. I feel we’re creating something very special, with moments that are some of the most emotional ever written.”
