Bake-Off stars at Bakewell Baking Festival

Bakewell will live up its name when the town hosts its second baking festival this weekend.

With the new series of the Great British Bake-Off currently being beamed into the nation’s homes, there will be much interest in the festival’s celebrity bakers.

Bake-Off fans can see Edd Kimber, winner of the first series in 2010, who will be among those demonstrating their art at this second festival .

They can also see Iain Watters who was eliminated from the television competition last year amid a Baked Alaska scandal.

Howard Middleton, one of 13 bakers who made the grade in 2013 and was selected out of 13,000 applicants for the popular TV programme, is also supporting the festival.

Other celebrities in the festival’s programme include Tom Herbert, from the TV programme The Fabulous Baker Brothers, Stacie Stewart, who was a finalist on MasterChef in 2010 and Supperclub founder Ms Marmite Lover.

Demonstrations and taste tests will keep the adults happy and there’s lots to keep the little bakers entertained too. They can decorate cupcakes and gingerbread or try their hand at making chappatis.

Vintage games and a Mr Darcy custard pie fight will add to the fun.

Artisan bread makers, creative bakers and biscuit makers, cheesemakers and chocolatiers will showcase their products and there will be stalls selling retro kitchenware.
