Back to the 80s for Chesterfield building which hosted gigs by Pulp and Peter and the Test Tube Babies

On Saturday, November 15, revellers will remember the Marsden Street building when it was Chesterfield Conservative Club.

They will recollect the former Tory HQ’s alter ego as a venue for alternative acts like Jarvis Cocker’s Pulp (right), the Subhumans and Peter and the Test Tube Babies who all performed there in the era.

These days its better known as state-of-the-art live music venue Real TimeLive but in the 1980s it was a lot more DIY when it came to bands.

Author Neil Anderson who has organised the event following the success of his best-selling ‘Dirty Stop Out’ s Guide to 1980s Chesterfield’ book said: “I attended some of my very first gigs at the Conservative Club and it seemed a natural home for an event like this. Last year’s event was a total sell out and we’re hoping for another busy night in November”

The event is also holding a raffle to raise money for Ashgate Hospice.
