Altan play at Buxton Opera House as part of town’s month of folk music

Old Irish reels and jigs will be performed by the renowned Irish group Altan as part of Buxton Folk in May.

The group, who celebrate their 35th anniversary this year, play at the Opera House on May 9.

With music ranging from sensitive and touching old Irish songs to hard hitting dance inducing numbers, the group have moved audiences around the world with their heart-warming and dynamic live performances.

The band is committed to bringing the beauty of traditional music, particularly that of the Donegal fiddlers and singers to contemporary audiences. In fact, Altan have always believed that Irish traditional music is a modern musicin every sense, and its growing influence and popularity has proved them right.

This year sees the release of Altan’s new album The Road Home, featuring guests such as s Alison Brown, Tim O’Brien, Stuart Duncan, Darol Anger, Kenny Malone, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Eddi Reader, Bruce Molsky and Jerry Douglas.

Altan’s concert at the Opera House on Saturday, May 9, starts at 7.30pm.
