Action-packed summer for film fans

If you thought Buxton doesn't have its own cinema, think again.

Some of the very best movie titles are presented regularly by Buxton Film in the Pavilion Arts Centre.

The month of August is shaping up to offer some great titles, spanning a range of locations from Hollywood to Mars to Transylvania to a penguin sanctuary.

Big hits such as The Martian, which follows the plight of an astronaut stranded on Mars, screens on Wednesday, August 17.

For children there’s the third instalment of the popular Kung Fu Panda series (August 10), where the hero Po meets his father who wants him to train other penguins in self-defence. Hotel Transylvania 2 tells the animated story of a young vampire who struggles to grow fangs (August 3).

For a slice of 1940s Hollywood try Trumbo (August 24), starring Helen Mirren, which tells the real-life story of the rehabilitation of blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who went on to write Spartacus.

If you like your Simon Pegg rom-coms, Man Up comes to the Arts Centre on August 10. Other films during the month include The Assassin (August 3) and Room (August 17).
