Inspired by the likes of John Renbourn, Bert Jansch and Tom Waits and drawing comparison to Nick Drake and John Martyn, John blends acoustic guitar playing with classic song writing.

His style has kept him in demand on the worldwide festival and touring circuit as well as seeing him build up a firm following in Derbyshire.

Described by The Sunday Times as ‘the guitarist’s guitarist’, John was recently invited by Ben Howard to play to 10,000 people at London’s famous Hammersmith Apollo.

Following a sell-out show at The Greystones, John is returning to Sheffield on Wednesday, November 27, touring his acclaimed new album Great Lakes.

Derbyshire musician Sam Genders, who organised the event, said: “This is sure to be a fantastic evening.

“John’s last show with us sold out well in advance and was a wonderful night. Not only is he an amazing performer - he’s also an utterly lovely bloke and this always helps create a great atmosphere.”

John has previously supported Richard Hawley on tour and is currently touring the classic folk album Bright Phoebus with Richard, Jarvis Cocker and Waterson Carthy - as well as doing many sold-out solo shows around the UK and Europe.

He will be supported by prolific songwriter Dennis Ellsworth, performing haunting songs inspired by Roy Orbison, Neil Diamond and Kris Kristofferson.

John Smith will perform at The Library Theatre in Sheffield. Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are £12.
