The first of Buxton’s many summer events opened on Friday.
This year’s Buxton Music, Speech and Drama Festival will feature over 40 hours of competitions across 108 classes, and 437 performances.
Opening the festival was performances by six choirs - including an entry from Harpur Hill School - in the choral section at the Octagon.
Piano and vocal classes have been taking place in the Methodist Church and St John’s Church from 9am.
Saturday’s programme features string competitions at the Methodist Church, and adult piano and vocal classes at St John’s.
The final day of the festival, on Saturday May 17, will include vocal, woodwind, brass and ensemble classes in the Methodist Church, with drama in the Upper and Lower Rooms.
The prize recital class will be held in the Methodist Church on May 10 at 3.30pm, and the junior recital class at the same venue on May 17 at 2.30pm.
Tickets to watch the competitions are £3 for one session or £4 for a whole day (concessions available) and will be available on the door.
