VARIETY is the keynote of Chesterfield G&S Society’s forthcoming spring concert.
The society will be performing in the Central Methodist Church, Saltergate, Chesterfield, on Thursday March 29, 2012.
The main chorus will sing music from the shows (including a medley of Rodgers & Hammerstein hits), music for Easter and Spring (Linden Lea, Pie Jesu and All in the April evening) and music of the stage including The Soldiers’ Chorus, Barcarolle and G&S favourites from The Pirates of Penzance and Ruddigore.
The concert also features a brand new concept – A local performers’ showcase. This gives six local musicians of all ages a chance to perform in the concert – typically two solo items. Taking the stage this time are Daniel Barnes (11 year old pianist), Laura Garner (young singer formerly of the G&S Youth Academy), Richard Fox (a talented flautist), Edward Jowle (an exciting young bass singer), Bart Pickford (an experienced classical guitarist) and Rachel Abbott (a stunning soprano). All these performers live within the Chesterfield area and have an abundance of talent.
The programme has been devised by musical director Andrew Marples who says: “This is a programme full of well-known pieces of all styles and the acoustics in the church mean we can include some sacred pieces too. The local soloists will bring an extra dimension and perhaps attract new audience members”.
The concert starts at 7.30pm (doors open at 6.50pm). Tickets £8 on the door or in advance by calling (01246) 418887,
