AWARD-WINNING Irish folk singer/songwriter Heidi Talbot comes to Buxton next month as part of the Four Four Time 2013 Festival of Live Music.
Her appearance at the Pavilion Arts Centre on Sunday February 17, at 8pm, will be part of an extensive tour promoting her brand new album Angels Without Wings, which is released the following day.
Subtlety is Talbot’s magic ingredient – from her gossamer voice to the delicate re-working of traditional and contemporary material that earned her rave reviews for her 2008 breakthrough In Love And Light.
The girl from Ireland’s Co. Kildare, who spent several years in New York as a member of the Irish-American supergroup Cherish The Ladies, slips effortlessly between musical worlds but retains a personal modesty rooted in traditional folk.
Talbot began writing songs on her 2010 album The Last Star. In just two years she’s become a master of the art, sometimes composing alone, sometimes with members of her touring band Boo Hewerdine and world-renowned multi-instrumentalist/producer John McCusker.
That same year, she was nominated for two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and recorded and toured with Idlewild, Eddi Reader, Michael McGoldrick and Kris Drever, as well as playing her own sell-out concerts across the UK and Ireland.
Tickets for Heidi Talbot, priced £16, are available from the Buxton Opera House Box Office on 0845 127 2190 or online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
• Four Four Time 2013, the 11th Buxton Festival of Live Music, runs from Saturday February 16 to Sunday February 24, featuring performances from top names such as Cast, Richard Hawley, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, Heaven 17 and The Dubliners.
