Theatre reaches out to young people

Summer’s here and the Pomegranate is broadening its programme to include more events for young people.

The 2011 Young People’s Festival, which this year includes performers from seven different groups, runs from June 26 to 28, closely followed by the Pomegranate Youth Theatre open evening on July 1.

Dancers from four different schools will be demonstrating their talents throughout July and Young Inspirations are presenting versions of Jungle Book and Guys and Dolls, which have been specially adapted for youth groups.

The theatre’s recently formed Youth Forum has canvassed opinion and chosen the two titles the Fancy Dress Film Day (August 18) and are confident that The Wizard of Oz and The Rocky Horror Picture Show will appeal to the widest possible age range.

The theatre is still recruiting for this year’s summer school (30 August to 3 September) but places are limited so book soon! And if you’d rather watch than take part, there’ll be a short performance devised by the group at the end of the week.

Last, but not least, in another Youth Forum initiative, the inaugural Pommy Jam Night (September 1) will take place at the theatre for budding musicians aged 14 to 18.
