A bubbly and mischievous elf is pretending to be hard at work in Santa’s workshop on Christmas Eve, but he is secretly hiding toys away for himself.

When Father Christmas finds out he explains to the Elf what Christmas is really all about through song, poems and stories – and with some audience assistance.

The Night Before Christmas is a magical adventure for children and their families, rounded off with a sing-along and the chance for every child to meet Santa and receive a gift.

Written by John Hester, the show previously played in the West End.

“It’s a unique Christmas theatre experience,” said Karen Henson, the show’s director. “Like a traditional grotto but with a play too. Every child receives a present, and meets Father Christmas. It really is magical!”

Adrian Lloyd James, who with Tabs Productions has just chalked up 100 productions at the Pomegranate Theatre, is playing St Nick himself - or at least filling in, as the real Santa will be busy preparing for his own big day!

“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Adrian. “I love Christmas and I can’t wait to bring the festive cheer to all the families who come along. It’s a lovely feelgood family show, with songs and even a bit of dancing too!

Santa’s naughty elf is played by Sarah Wynn Kordas, another member of the rep company who has just appeared in The Final Twist at the Pomegranate. “What I really like about it,” said Sarah, “is that it’s suitable for anyone young or old. Just to watch the children’s faces light up when Santa first appears will be terrific.”

Sarah has also designed the show which she hopes will bring some of the old-fashioned Christmas magic back into this year’s celebrations.

The Night Before Christmas is a collaboration between Tabs Productions and Chesterfield Studios.
