PSYCHEDELIC and progressive rock fans from Derbyshire area are in for a special treat at a music festival.

Newly re-formed English rock band Family will play at the Rockin’ The Park music weekender at Clumber Park on Friday, August 16.

The gig will be the only music festival which the band, originally from Leicester, plays in the UK this year.

Lead singer Roger Chapman said: “There are loads of festivals to choose from and we wanted something special and close to our East Midlands’ roots.

“We were also impressed with the line-up. When we play a festival we want to catch the other bands and with Caravan, Michael Chapman and Asia playing on the same bill it means we will enjoy ourselves before we take to the stage.”

Family found fame and a huge fan base in the late 60s and early 70s with a fusion of folk, psychedelia, acid jazz, rock and roll.

The band played two sell-out gigs at the O2 Sheperds Bush Empire with a line-up that included Roger Chapman, Poli Palmer, Rob Townsend and Jim Cregan, who will all be at Clumber Park.

Family will appear at Rockin’ The Park as a nine- piece, playing their hits including Top of the Hill, Burlesque, In My Own Time, Weaver’s Answer and My Friend the Sun .

Rockin’ The Park forms part of a full music weekend at Clumber Park.

On Saturday, August 17, the Flashback Festival will include Spandau Ballet’s Tony Hadley, Rick Astley, Jimmy Sommerville and a host of other 80s artists while Sunday is given over to classical music when Russell Watson and his Orchestra will take to the stage.
