Performance poet Mark Gwynne Jones is launching a new season of spoken word nights at Cromford Mills.
He will perform a selection of his poetry on Friday, July 10, and there will also be the opportunity for other writers to come along and showcase their own work in the relaxed atmosphere of Wheatcroft’s Wharf Cafe.
Five times fringe award winner, Mark Gwynne Jones is well known for mind altering poetry with an almost music hall edge.
A skilful mix of humour and poignancy has made him a favourite of BBC Radio 4’s Wondermentalist Cabaret and Radio 3’s Late Junction. As resident poet in four of London’s parks, Mark explored what is meant by ‘common ground’ in 21st century Britain.
In 2012 Mark and his band Psychicbread were commissioned to write and record a new collection of poems for his native Peak District.
He has published five collections of poetry and has appeared in numerous anthologies.
Earlier this year Mark toured southern India with Indian poet Mamta Sagar.
Words at the Wharf starts at 7.15pm on the first floor of the cafe which is accessed by stairs. Entry is free. For more details, call 01629 825995,
