STAFF and residents of an historic country house are pulling out the stops to raise money to repair a Peak District church.

They are staging a Spanish night fundraiser at Haddon Hall next week in aid of the roof repair fund at St Katherine’s Church in Rowsley.

The evening is the brainchild of hall manager Janet Blackburn, who was shocked to see the state of the church roof when she attended the funeral of a former member of staff at Haddon.

Backed by the hall’s owner, Lord Edward Manners, and the church vicar Tony Kaunhoven, Janet has arranged the fundraiser for Friday, October 5, at 7pm.

The Raise the Roof evening will feature flamenco dancer Nemmy Hatch who will be entertaining guests in the banqueting hall at Haddon.

Ruth Ross, one of the hall’s duty wardens has offered her services as a wine expert and will conduct a wine-tasting quiz.

A tapas buffet will be provided by Chris and Sue Cooke from the Haddon Hall restaurant.

Tickets for Raise the Roo cost £25.

Other entertainment at Haddon throughout October include a Folk Evening of Fun and Musical Hiccup on Thursday, October 11, from 8.30pm until 11pm. Tickets cost £10

The hall will be marking Halloween with tours through the ancient rooms, led by actors, and suppers. Tickets are £20.
