A GROUP of bands is behind the latest bid to keep local music live and kick some life back into the Chesterfield music scene
Spearheaded by Dylan Pashley of What If We Were Superheroes, a bunch of north Derbyshire musicians launched the ‘bring back the Chesterfield Music Scene’ group on Facebook.
Dylan explained: “It was basically to hear other people’s opinions on the lagging music scene in our town.
“After creating the group I had an overwhelming amount of bands/ musicians talking about how it would be a great idea to find a venue that would put on live events at affordable rates so all the music lovers of Derbyshire can come and enjoy local talent without having to spend crazy amounts of money going to watch them.”
And bosses at Chezzy nightclub Escapade have picked up the challenge which has resulted in the first RAWR night at the club taking place on Sunday.
Running every third Sunday in the month, RAWR is dedicated to playing the best alternative music and showcasing top local bands.
And with free entry and drinks offers, plus music from the likes of What If We Were Superheroes, The Dismissive Attack!, The Sharrow and A Dishonest Truth and a DJ set from Twisted Ol’, to start the grand opening, it looks like an impressive first night.
Dylan added: “Our aim is to make it a success and give other local bands a chance to play a great venue.
“We want to create gig nights where bands can play and not feel under pressure to sell tickets or bring a quota of people with them.
“We also want an environment where members of the public can go to enjoy local talent without spending a fortune.”
