MUSICIANS and music fans alike are set for a treat when an all-day fundraising spectacular hits Chesterfield.

The inaugural Spirefest hits the town’s Winding Wheel on April 9, in what organisers hope will become an annual event.

The afternoon session will include a battle of the bands contest featuring performances from Mutz Nutz, The Great Escape Artists and IndigoChild.

The crowd will be invited to vote for their favourite band of the afternoon by digging deep and dropping any spare cash into the band’s charity bucket.

The winning band will be the one that has collected the most money by the end of the afternoon. All proceeds will go to the event’s chosen charity which is Cancer Research UK.

There will also be a guitar show, with various guitar, amplifier and accessory manufacturers and suppliers demonstrating and selling their own products.

Then, in the evening the winning band from the afternoon will open for acclaimed blues-rocker Chantel McGregor.

There is also to be a charity auction for various signed memorabilia, guitars and amplifiers, all of which will be on show in the afternoon for people to get a closer look at what they will be bidding for in the evening.

All proceeds from the day will go to Cancer Research UK, tickets are on sale now.

All day tickets are £15 for adults and £6 for under 14s and will allow entry into the whole event, which runs from 12.30pm until 11pm.
