Members of Matlock G&S Society will put their trademark spin on a favourite opera.

Their production of The Pirates of Penzance is based around the annual gathering of The Jolly Roger Re-enactment Society and the induction of new member Frederic who has passed his apprenticeship. The role is taken by Andrew Moore who played Frederic in 2012 for Chesterifeld G&S Society.

The arrival, on a “glamping” holiday of “a bevy of beautiful maidens” including Mabel (played by Lizzy Blades) makes Frederick determined to mend his ways and stop his comrades from continuing in criminal ways.

The cast includes Angela Robinson as piratical maid Ruth, Nic Wilson who plays the Major General, Max Taylor as Pirate King and David Stokes and Liddy Buswell as senior and junior sergeants.

Performances are at the Medway Centre, Bakewell, from June 9 to 11. Tickets £11 from Nic Wilson, tel. 01629 812276 or the Medway Centre 01629 813638.
