Almost three-quarters of people (72%) in the East Midlands receive at least one gift they don’t want every Christmas - according to research by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) as it launches its Unwanted Gifts Appeal.
Topping the chart of the most unwanted gift in the East Midlands is the X Factor winner’s single with more than a quarter of people (28%) admitting this is what they’d least like to receive. Other unpopular choices include saucy underwear, musical ties, a digital photo frame, a foot spa and novelty pants and socks.
BHF shops in the East Midlands love the gifts others don’t and any unwanted presents provide valuable stock for its network of over 700 Shops. Last Christmas BHF shops in the East Midlands welcomed a surge in donations of candles; diaries; toiletries; pyjamas and festive ornaments. BHF shops sell over 80,000 items a day so these donations are crucial.
Mechelle Hopkins, an area manager for BHF shops in the East Midlands, says: “People often receive perfectly good presents that are simply not to their taste, are the wrong size, or they may have been given two of the same item. Whether it’s a dress that doesn’t fit; a CD that’s not to your liking; or a book you’ve already read - your donations mean a great deal to heart patients in the East Midlands.”
BHF Furniture and Electrical Stores in the East Midlands also provide a great new home for any unwanted furniture or electrical items for those lucky enough to upgrade over the festive season. TV’s, hi-fis, sofas and dining sets are all sought-after items and a free collection service is bookable online at bhf.org.uk/collection.
