Go ape in the woods

Have your say

HOW many times have you switched on the TV, stumbled across a nature programme with our ape ancestors swinging freely from tree to tree in the jungle and thought: “I’d love to do that”?

Well you can – right on your doorstep!

The Go Ape high-wire forest adventure course in Buxton gives daredevil visitors the chance to get away from it all and go bananas.

Situated in the stunning Buxton Country Park near Poole’s Cavern, adventurers can enjoy a fun-filled, adrenaline-fuelled few hours of monkeying around on a whole host of physically-testing tree-top obstacle courses.

My excited primates and I arrived at the popular attraction in gorgeous sunshine last week, eagerly-awaiting the daring challenges ahead.

We were met by the friendly instructors then got into our all-important harnesses and received an incredibly thorough safety briefing and quality training.

After that, we were fully-prepared to take to the trees and enjoy some exhilarating experiences in this giant outdoor playground - constantly under the watchful eyes of the helpful instructors, of course.

We relished the liberating thrill of travelling through the air on zip wires high above the breathtaking landscape as well as climbing tree-top ladders, crossing wooden walkways and tunnels and swinging through the forest on Tarzan swings before crashing into huge cargo nets.

It was such a great shame when the course finished as it was so much fun and great exercise – I’d have stayed all day if possible!

When everyone was back on the boring old ground, we were presented with stickers and congratulatory certificates for completing the adventure – a perfect keepsake to remember this tremendous day out.

On the way back home, one seasoned companion, who can be a tad tricky to please, beamed: “What an absolutely fantastic place – definitely ten out of ten.”

So go on, burn off all those Easter egg calories and keep the kids entertained at Go Ape this half-term - it’s chimply marvellous!
