He’s renowned at Chesterfield’s favourite comic actor - and Damian Williams is looking forward to his return to the Pomegranate stage.
Back in town this evening, Sunday May 12, after more than a year, Damian will be playing comedy legend Tommy Cooper.
“Tommy has had a big influence on me,” said Damian. “He was the comedians’ comedian - they looked up to him.”
Being Tommy Cooper, by Tom Green, was premiered at the Old Red Lion Theatre, Islington and ran for 13 weeks last summer.
The warts and all play was nominated for four West End awards and received rave reviews.
Damian said: “When I heard it was going on tour, I told them to book it into the Pomegranate because I had quite a following there.
“I’m really looking forward to coming back to Chesterfield.”
He ends our conversation in typical comic fashion: “If it’s a bad night you’ll find me in the graveyard near the Crooked Spire with a bottle of cider.”
