A modern tale of power and sexual politics will be staged by new Chesterfield-based theatre company, Scene One.
Woodcut is written by Gary Brashier who graduated from drama school in 2005 and has directed plays and variety shows in London.
He started Scene One company in Chesterfield last May “to provide a platform for writers, producers and actors to develop ideas and create a new magic.”
Gary will direct Woodcut at The Lantern Theatre, Sheffield, from January 29 to February 1.
The play focuses on Helen and Julian who have just moved to a new home in Hampstead.
Helen’s stressful job in PR introduces her to Myles, a new boss who she invites to dinner.What happens causes Helen to make life-changing choices.
Gary said: “This modern drama deals with so many current issues, perceived life values, societies’ expectations, work politics, emotional abuse, sexual politics.
“But is not all tragic, there’s a large dollop of comedy in this too.”
The cast includes Canan Cahit, playing Suzie, a member of the City Players Amateur dramatic group in Eckington for four years. The score is by DJ, producer and Drop Music label owner Laurence Ritchie.
