Comedians may rise to stardom or fall by the wayside but there is one constant ensuring that north Derbyshire will never be short of laughs.

Dapper man in black Anthony J. Brown is looking forward to celebrating the anniversary of a comedy club he founded.

“He said: “It feels fabulous for Spotlight Comedy to be nine years old in Chesterfield. I started at the college Arts Centre in 2004, when the venue closed down I sidled over to the Winding Wheel in 2007. And we’ve been deliriously compatible bedfellows ever since.”

The birthday bash on Thursday, January 24, features special guest Smug Roberts, of Phoenix Nights fame, headlining a slew of comics including Chris Turner who wowed the crowd at last year’s Edinburgh Festival.

Anthony added: “Besides January’s cavalcade of quality, there are some other mesmerisingly good line-ups this year. Michael Redmond is a cast iron comedy legend and one of my all-time faves, Wes Zaharuk is a “rib-tickling force of nature from Canada and Bobby Mair is a marquee name of the future that folk will chastise themselves if they miss seeing him in the intimate Winding Wheel ballroom.”
