Around 100 singers and instrumentalists of all ages competed in an annual festival.

Chesterfield Music festival was held at Rose Hill United Reformed Church and at Elder Yard Unitarian Chapel.

Participants demonstrated their skills and talent in front of an appreciative audience and received constructive feedback from the professional adjudicators, Coral Gould and Kathryn Page. Included for a second year were drama and verse-speaking classes, adjudicated by local actor and president of the festival, John Goodrum.

An All-Winners concert was held at the end of the festival, where four trophies were awarded:

Charlotte Hand won instrumentalist of the year, her brother Timothy won young performer of the year, Jason Allan was presented with the vocalist of the festival trophy (awarded by Chesterfield Gilbert & Sullivan Society) and Declan Ryder won most promising singer, landing a new trophy awarded by Alan and Ann Shutt.

Chesterfield Music Festival has been organised by a hard-working team of volunteers and is affiliated to the British & International Federation of Festivals. Various fund-raising events are held to help with the costs of the festival – the next one is a concert by Chesterfield Co-operative Choral Society on Friday, June 22, at Whittington Moor Methodist Church. There will also be coffee mornings at Elder Yard Unitarian Chapel on Saturdays, July 13 and 20. Details of all these events can be found on the website: chesterfieldmusicfestival.org.uk.
