It’s been a hectic year for Derbyshire Times band of the year victors Educatables - from getting their songs played on prime time TV to welcoming a new arrival - there’s plenty to celebrate.

And as the trio get set to hand over the coveted cup next month they are calling on other Derbyshire bands to get involved with the competition.

Drummer Ricky Barson said: “Since winning it has boosted our confidence and we have gone on to support Professor Green at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium and also had three of our songs featured on Hollyoaks.

“Plus a lot more people in this area are familiar with our name which is a good thing because we get asked to play much more gigs than before.”

He added: “To get through to the competition (even if you weren’t to win it) would really boost a band’s profile and gigging opportunities.”

For the band’s guitarist Robin Simpson it’s been a momentous year in many ways as he became a proud dad to his first child. Baby Alice arrived at 12:21pm on December 23 weighing 6lbs 13oz.

Derbyshire Times and Real Time Live’s Band of the Year will now take place on February 27 with semi-finals on February 13 and 20.

To enter send us a band photo and a demo CD of three tracks, at least one of which must be an original.

Closing dates for entries is February 3. For more details call 01246 504578.
