A Certain Summer, written by Peter Gray, takes readers into the imagination and fantasy world of Sam, a child of the Sixties.

Reviewing the book, Bob Wilson, who was born in Chesterfield, said: “A Certain Summer incorporates so much of my own childhood and upbringing in Derbyshire. It is both very funny and extremely poignant for anyone, like me, who was a kid in the 60s.

“The background to this story is the Derbyshire that I knew then and remember so well now, a mixture of beautiful countryside and industrial grimness.

“The language and accents are exactly as I remember. So too are Sam’s dreams and adventures, both real and imagined. As kids we all, in our innocence, love to disappear into the world of make believe.

“Sam’s world is, of course, a fantasy world but it entertains, inspires and leaves an element of pride in coming from a special place.”

Author Peter Gray was born in the 1950s and grew up in North Wingfield.

He worked in various capacities including mechanic for the coal industry, armourer, musician, stunt actor, film extra and historical costume maker.

In 2002 Peter moved to Lincolnshire, where he now runs his own clock restoration business and film company.

He began writing books in the 1990s, penning autobiographical novels about the adventures of Sam, the main character in ‘A Certain Summer’.
