Ghosts, ghoulies and things that go bump in the night…Halloween is creeping up on us.

Ghosts, ghoulies and things that go bump in the night…Halloween is creeping up on us.

The long dark nights, and the chill in the air make it the perfect time of the year to be scared witless.

Rumpus Theatre Company is ratcheting up the fear factor with a new stage adaptation of a spooky story by Wilkie Collins, who wrote The Woman In White.

The play, entitled The Ghost’s Touch!, has been penned by company founder John Goodrum, who lives in South Wingfield.

He said: “Rumpus Theatre Company prides itself on performing genuine Gothic horror melodramatic productions.”

The play focuses on a widower whose little girl is terrified by a mysterious woman. It comes to Chesterfield’s Pomegranate Theatre on November 1, midway through an extensive national tour.

Nicholas Gilbrook, who plays widower Stephen Rayburn, said: “There is a lot of travelling involved but once you get into the run you get quite used to it.”

Nicholas’s previous thrillers include The Black Veil and The Dead Hand.

His co-star in The Ghost’s Touch! is Amanda Howard, who plays the mysterious Mrs Zant.

She lives in Leeds and has appeared in the TV series Band of Gold.
