More popular than pizza and fish and chips, Chinese cuisine has long been one of the nation’s favourite food.
But what is the criteria for a good Chinese restaurant?
Like most people I want authentic, tasty food in a pleasant environment with helpful staff willing to go the extra mile.
Ticking most boxes is Dynasty which has long been a fixture on Chesterfield’s Wheatbridge Road.
Popular with revellers enjoying the Brampton night-life the restaurant offers an excellent range of Pekinese, Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine.
We visited on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was surprisingly quiet although tables soon began to fill up as the night went on.
We were welcomed by very friendly staff who promptly took our drink orders and offered us prawn crackers while we perused the menu.
After ordering we were taken to our table in the colourful and traditionally decorated main part of the restaurant.
For starters we shared a delicious salty seaweed platter along with crispy satay pancakes that we polished off without any trouble.
The restaurant has a vast selection of main dishes from seafood, meat, authentic Chinese soups, pan fried crispy noodles, hot pots, vegetarian dishes and curries
For main course I ordered the Dynasty Special Vegetarian Delight and steamed rice which was a lovely combination of crunchy, fresh, seasonal Chinese vegetables and tofu.
The vegetables were served in a subtle garlic sauce.
My partner enjoyed the rich oriental flavours of barbecue honey char siu pork in Szechuan sauce.
We also ordered a plate of lightly seasoned bok choy, a tasty Chinese cabbage which was not advertised on the menu but the staff were more than willing to provide.
All in all, a restaurant with good ambience, friendly service and authentic Chinese food. I will be going back.
