Party–goers are praying for good weather as they get ready for the Peak District’s premiere musical event.

Y Not festival returns next weekend with its usual array of musicians and entertainment to satisfy all tastes.

The multi–award winning festival has rocketed in both size and notoriety since its humble beginnings.

Now scores of festival–goers will flock to the event, in the usually sleepy rural hamlet Pikehall, many of whom will be donning capes and masks for the traditional fancy dress day, which this year has a theme of superheroes.

Between Friday, August 2, and Sunday, August 4, bands such as The Darkness, Electric Six, The Horrors, 1975 and The Cribs will be strutting their stuff on the venue’s five stages to the delight of the crowds.

However Y Not is not just about big acts. The festival organisers are also very keen to support up and coming stars on the music scene, as well as local musicians.

Among the buffet of talent on offer, Derbyshire bands Chase the Rain and Parasight will be performing.

Both acts are part of the Turn it Up (TUI) music development programme run by Fleet Arts and play in the festival’s Turn it Up showcase slot.

Julian Butt, music development worker for the TUI programme, said: “The Y Not festival organisers said that they wanted bands of high quality and who play original music. This fits in completely with what we do.”
