RUSSIAN skating stars will be dancing on ice in a trailblazing show for Chesterfield.

RUSSIAN skating stars will be dancing on ice in a trailblazing show for Chesterfield.

A magical production of Cinderella will see the stage of the Winding Wheel transformed into an ice rink for the first time.

The only performance of Cinderella on Ice in the region promises to be a spectacular production with aerial acrobatics among the magical highlights.

Colin said: “Our performers have got to do jumps and turns and be actors as well - it is very specialisT and a lot of skaters wouldn’t attempt it.”

Starring as Cinderella will be 24-year-old Valeria Vorobyera, 24, from St Petersburg who has been skating she was eight.

Her Prince Charming will be skated by Vladis Mintals, 32, from Estonia, a European champion who has been a skater for 28 years and started when he was four.

The pair have charmed audiences in Hawaii, Brazil and many European countries with their skating skills in various fairy-tale shows.

Producer Colin Angus has a 20-year history of putting on ice shows with Russian companies in the UK.

He said: “We can do big arenas and ice rinks and small theatres. An ice rink is usually 60 metres square but we can adapt a show for a 12-metre square stage.”

An intricate operation will turn the Winding Wheel stage into a winter wonderland.

Refrigeration units in trailers parked alongside the showpiece venue will chill glycol down to minus 18 deg C, ready to be pumped through a network of pipes laid across a protective cover over the stage. Water sprayed on top of the pipes will freeze to form the icy surface.

Colin added: “During the performance the skaters churn up the surface so much that we could make snowballs so we have to barrow it out of the theatre. and apply fresh water to the ice.”

Cinderella On Ice will be staged at the Winding Wheel from December 12-16, 2012.

CINDERELLA is the world’s favourite fairytale and promises to be a treat for all the family in the run-up to Christmas.

The production bound for Chesterfield this month is particularly magical as it will all be done on ice.

Beautiful skating combined with breath-taking aerial feats will have spectators mesmerised.
