The six-year-old pupil at Tupton Primary School will be treading the boards in Madam Butterfly at the Winding Wheel, Chesterfield, next month.

His mum, Julie, of 10 Elvin Way, Tupton, said: “I am so proud of him - he is very excited about it.

“The producers were looking for a child between the ages of four and seven who would be well enough behaved to go on stage for ten to twenty minutes.“

Thomas was recommended for the role of Madam Butterfly’s child by dance teacher Roseanna Sanderson, whose mum runs the Diane Bradbury School of Theatre Dance in Chesterfield.

Julie said: “Roseanna used to teach him and remembered that he was always a good boy.”

Budding performer Thomas is following in his family’s footsteps. His dad Robert and his mum are members of Chesterfield Operatic Society and sister Hannah, 8, was a dancer in the panto Robin Hood at Hasland Playhouse last month.

Madam Butterfly will be staged in Chesterfield on March 4 by The Grand Opera of Belarus. Tickets rom £30.
