Behind its unassuming façade, Princes restaurant was inviting from the moment I walked through the door.
Unsure of what to expect from a converted Clay Cross pub, I was transported into a true Mexican Mecca. There was the odd sombrero on the wall and floral garlands but nothing was overdone and it was very tasteful in its appearance
It wasn’t too busy so we had the pick of the tables and watched a steady stream of couples come and go throughout our meal.
There wasn’t an extensive menu but alongside the usual Mexican foods like fajitas and enchiladas, there was a separate burger menu for those with a slightly more delicate palate.
While we were deciding on what to eat we grazed on the nachos and dip which were brought with our drinks.
I opted for the herb and garlic crusted brie served with chilli dip. It was reasonably priced, (at only £3.50) as were all the starters. I didn’t have to wait for for it to come and it was well presented when it arrived.
Next up I decided to go for the veg chimichanga, and at only £6.90 I thought was a very reasonable price for a main course. It was served with fries and salad and although I was not a fan of the fries, and would have preferred to see home-made chips, the chimichanga was excellent. Not too spicy, as I don’t like things too hot; just enough to taste the flavours.
Nothing better than vanilla ice-cream to cool the palate and it just happened to be served with a hot chocolate brownie, yum! At only £3.60 it was a generous portion.
Overall I thought the service was excellent. Their website boasts ‘relaxed and friendly dining’ and I totally agree.
I thought it would make an ideal venue for larger parties, especially with the discounted two-course party menu and children’s menu. There are early bird deals too, along with a decent drinks menu including cocktails like Margaritas.
