But if you’ve seen far too much of your kitchen recently, and have blisters on your hand from the potato peeler, then it’s time to let someone else do the hard work for you.
Picking up the phone and having delicious food brought straight to your door is definitely the right option for the over-worked festive cook.
And if you like your food with an eastern flavour, Chesterfield’s West Bars Tandoori is the place to ring.
Their menu is more than comprehensive, offering a multitude of options from the traditional and familiar fare to their own house specials.
We opted for chicken chat and a seekh kebab (£2.45) to start, placing our order over the phone.
Thirty-five minutes later - exactly on time - there was a knock on the door and a bag full of delicious aromas was handed over.
The starters were very tasty, with the chat particularly having a rewarding and complex depth of flavour.
For the main course I opted for chicken pasanda (£6.45), a rich creamy dish that was delicatedly spiced, filled with large chunks of tender chicken.
It’s easy for some cooks to hide dry, over-cooked meat in their sauces, but the dishes served up by West Bars were anything but.
We also sampled their lamb karahi, with barbecued onions, peppers and tomatoes providing a foil to the soft rich lamb.
The dish had a delicious warmth to it, again with a delicious depth of spices - not just raw heat.
We chose mushroom rice (£2.25) and their garlic nan bread to accompany the meal, the rice in particular being full of flavour and not just there to bulk out the meal. There was little need for that as the portions were more than generous
