SO four white blokes of a certain age playing blues rock doesn't sound like it's going to break too many moulds.
But Mean Red Spider and their self-entitled debut album might almost convert the non-believers into buying a Status Quo album and pulling on a denim jacket!
Taking their name from a Muddy Waters classic hit, the four-piece band consist of drums, guitar, bass and vocal talents.
With influences such as Hendrix and Cream, the band offers a unique flavour that will excite any music fanatic's musical taste buds.
Guitarist Chris Frogatt takes obvious influence from the aforementioned Hendrix, with his improvisational blues riffs wrapping off each track.
Stomping Hip-Hop beats provided by Rob Cooke keep up the tempo and Dennis Frogatt's tight, dubby bassline really makes you want to move
.
Lead vocals come from motormouth frontman Daz Leigh, actor, radio presenter, singer, pianist, juggler, puppeteer, ventriloquist and God knows whatever else, he is one talented man.
The track to listen out for is the second song; which has a hint of psychedelia to it with whirrs of synthesisers supporting a thick, heavy guitar riff and a thumping drum.
The band's weak point is perhaps that the lyrics are typical of your average hormonal teenage band.
Maybe if Mr Leigh spent less time showing his lovelies to Myspace viewers and focused on writing more mature lyrics, the band could make huge progress.
