A new indie night in Chesterfield is helping to spread the alternative sound into clubland – and showcase the best of local musical talent.
Mick Bailey of The Culture Thieves and Thom Gill, who plays in Matt Wale and The Rackets, are spearheading the drive to get the county's bands heard on the dancefloor.
The lads will be hosting a night of top indie and alternative music at Livingstones every Friday night.
And the Indie-Pendent will also feature music from local bands in the mix, including the likes of Avangaad and Vigilante Wing.
Thom Gill said: "Variety is good and if the people of Chesterfield have a choice, we can turn them on to more new and exciting music."
The drive to promote the local music is something Culture Thief Mick Bailey has taken up with missionary fervour.
"It's important to take these new and exciting local bands and shove them in peoples ears because there is alot of talent out there and not a lot of chance to air it," he said.
Indie-Pendent Sounds runs every Friday from 10pm at Livingstones, Chesterfield.
Admission is £3 and all drinks are £2.
Bands who want the chance to have tracks played at the night can contact Mick by emailing him at bailey_ygs@hotmail.com or by bringing CDs down on the night
