The sands of time are running very, very low for anyone hoping to stake a claim to our coveted Band of the Year title.
Another fistful of bands have thrown their hats into the ring this week, with entries arriving every day.

But if you want to take the crown, the kudos and bag yourself some tidy prizes, you'll need to get your skates on, because the closing date for entries is at noon on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17.

If you think you have want it takes, here's what you need to do.

Fill in the form in the Derbyshire this week and return it with a decent-quality band photo along with a CD/demo tape containing three songs.

At least one track of your three MUST be an original composition.

Get your entry into us by noon on October 17 — then cross your fingers.

The tapes will be judged by an expert panel who have no idea of the bands they're listening to.

Each entry is marked purely on its musical merits — not band reputation or history.

The judges will select the 12 best bands to battle it out live at Chesterfield's Winding Wheel in two semi-finals on November 3 and 10.

The six best acts from those two heats will then return to the Wheel for the grand finale on November 17, when the top act will be crowned Derbyshire Times Band of the Year 2008.

As well as taking the title and trophy, the winning band will also collect a fistful of great prizes.

So what are you waiting for?

Grab your biro, fill in the form and start out on your path to glory!
