Playing to a packed house must be an amazing sight from the stage and Chesterfield rockers Traitors Gate seemed to be loving their set at Club Chesterfield.
Opening with the classic Judas Priest track Electric Eye, the song's end brought up a deafening roar from the faithful which extended the band's grins even further - if that could be possible.

Formed four years ago from the ashes of other units and comprising Dave Hewitt on bass, Graham Brown and Oliver Cady on guitars, Paul Rowbottom on the tubs and Rilliat on guitar and vocals, they really did go down well.

Especially with me, as they played Iron Maiden's Different World.
Often bands opt for the obvious, which can be a failing and as, so much has happened musically this millennium, to perform a song I can't recall ever hearing before earns them top marks.

With Dio's Holy Diver belted out, the big surprise was another Maiden track: Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter.

Midway through, the crowd burst into an impromptu singalong, which sounded amazing.

AC/DC's Let There Be Rock closed the set to cries of 'more', but sadly, to no avail.

Seasoned musicians they may be, but Traitors Gate left me in no doubt that they mean business.

For some bizarre reason, our paths have never crossed, but after this stunning performance I'm inking them into my calendar to ensure a fully comprehensive viewing before the year's out.

ROY GOODALL.
