Young boxer looks at home in the ring in front of big crowd

Chesterfield boxer Kieron Brennan won his first ever fight in the ring - in front of 500 spectators.

The 12-year-old showed no nerves as he opened the Championship England Boxing event in Evesham on Saturday (March 7).

He went a full three, one-and-a-half-minute rounds with his opponent William Gillies and comfortably sailed home on points.

His dad, Andrew, from Hasland, was proud of his son’s achievement and said young Kieron boxed ‘out of his skin’.

“He was bouncing around and looked confident,” he said. “You would have thought he’d been boxing years looking at him.

“His style was almost machine-like and his movement was incredible and he understandably tired towards the end.”

Kieron, who only began boxing in the last year at Dronfield ABC, is in action again on March 21 in Boston against Coby Brown.

Andrew took both Kieron and his older brother Shay, 15, to the club when he caught them arguing.
