Matlock Town manager Mark Atkins hopes to confirm two new signings this week after two of their brightest young stars signed new contracts last week.
The Town boss would not reveal their identity for fear of other clubs finding out and possibly taking them from under his nose, but he confirmed that everything had been agreed and he does not anticipate any late hitches.
This comes after both defender Adam Yates and midfielder Liam King signed on the dotted line again for the Gladiators.
Atkins said: “They’re both exceptional young players who’ve been great for us and were excellent last season, so I’m naturally delighted that they’ve committed themselves to the club again.
“The team spirit we have at this club is first class and they obviously enjoy being here.
“They’re also very popular with our supporters who’ll no doubt be just as pleased as we are with the news.”
Yates has been a model of consistency since joining the Gladiators from Shirebrook Town in March, 2009.
The former Belper defender had turned in a man of the match performance for the Northern Counties East League side in a narrow 1-0 defeat by Matlock in the Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final a fortnight earlier.
King signed for Town in the summer of 2008 after being released by Rotherham United and swiftly put behind him the disappointment of missing out on a full-time career with a string of impressive performances both in midfield and at full-back or in central defence.
Matlock have confirmed another pre season friendly as neighbours and Blue Square Conference Premier new boys Alfreton Town will visit the Reynolds Stadium on Wednesday, August 3.
This now gives the Gladiators warm up matches with away games at Teversal (Saturday, July 9), Armthorpe Welfare (Tuesday, July 12), Sheffield (Thursday July 28), and Belper Town (Saturday, August 6).
Also visiting Matlock are two Football League sides in Bradford City (Friday, July 15) and Chesterfield (Tuesday, July 19) plus Championship side Derby County on Monday, July 25.
Matlock’s squad report back for pre season training on Thursday, June 30.
