Watersports lovers have been invited to become involved in National Windsurfing Week at Carsington Sports and Leisure next week.
For eight days from Sunday, May 1, windsurfing schools, clubs, shops, and individuals all across the UK will be doing everything they can to help people get a taste for, and fall in love with, their sport.
To play their part in helping to get more people windsurfing regularly Carsington Sports and Leisure will take part in a nationwide series of Windsurfing 4 Cancer Research (W4CR) fundraising events on Sunday.
The W4CR ‘Sunrise Sunset’ challenge is one of the most popular elements of National Windsurfing Week and Carsington Sports and Leisure will be running special windsurfing activities throughout the day including taster sessions, windsurf races and just encouraging as many windsurfers as possible to take to the water.
There will be a BBQ and raffle with all proceeds going to W4CR, the charity formed to promote cancer awareness among windsurfers and, through specific projects, raise funds for cancer research, education and support.
Further windsurfing taster sessions are also available on Monday, May 2, and Saturday, May 7.
Gillian Wright, RYA Windsurfing Development Officer, said: “It’s great that the windsurfing community has mobilized itself on such a big scale to promote the sport. I hope that people will really make the most of it and come along to the events taking place across the country and have a go for themselves.”
As well as their National Windsurfing Week activities, Carsington Sports and Leisure is also running a number of adult and junior windsurfing courses and clinics over the summer. Carsington Sports and Leisure is a recognised RYA Training Centre meaning its courses conform to the highest standards of quality and safety in the world.
