Chapel cruiserweight Jack Massey says he feels in peak physical fitness ahead of his next big fight night.

The 20-year-old will be on the bill at Oldham Sports Centre a week on Saturday (March 8), for what will be his fourth outing in the paid ranks.

The fight, against an as-yet unnamed opponent, takes place on the undercard of the English super-featherweight title clash between Jon Kays and Lee Glover.

From his training camp, Massey told the Advertiser that he feels in great shape after an extended period of training.

He said: “I’ve had eight weeks worth of intense training camps and it’s been going really well.

“I’ve been working on a few different things and it’s helped that I’ve had time to work on skills and not just fitness.

“I feel fitter than ever before, and training twice a day has definitely helped towards that.”

Massey trains under the watchful eye of Bobby Rimmer and he says having fighters such as World title challenger Brian Rose alongside him is invaluable.

He said: “Training alongside someone like Brian is great because he really spurs you on.

“The calibre of lads in the gym is great and having someone like Bobby giving me advice on a daily basis is invaluable.”

Massey now hopes to continue his impressive record which saw him finish 2013 with three wins from three.

He recorded wins over Jody Meikle, Will Burkin and Tommy Gifford and says all three fighters posed different threats.

He added: “I’ve picked up good and bad bits from my first three fights.

“I’ve faced three different opponents.

“Jody was streetwise and knew all the little tricks, Will was a totally different fighter and was really tough and Tommy was also a tough lad who brought the fight to me.

“That’s what I’ve been working on lately - not just my fitness but also my level of skills.”
