Two young members of Middleton & Wirksworth Wrestling Club represented Great Britain at the 2014 Jelgava Youth Tournament in Latvia.
Thirteen-year-olds Lewis Brown and Shaun Thorp travelled with northern regional coach Jesse Bradbury, club welfare officer Sharen Thorpe and four other wrestlers from around Britain to take part in the event, which saw 220 other competitors take part.
Lewis (37kg) had a large weight group of 23 wrestlers and ranked 13th overall, losing out to a Russian by only a single point.
Shaun (44kg) had 13 wrestlers in his group and got a final placing of eighth after also losing out to a Russian opponent.
Middleton & Wirksworth coach Dean Brown said “Both lads were very honoured to represent their country for the first time.
“The experience and knowledge learnt whilst in Latvia was extremely valuable and really something to be proud of.
“Middleton and Wirksworth Wrestling Club would like to thank major sponsors Parkside Fitness Matlock and S L Auto Electrical for their support in making their first steps towards a great future in wrestling.”
Lewis and Shaun will also be spending their half-term working hard at a week-long training camp in Shropshire with the GB squad.
