Super Mac set for Escapade

Chesterfield’s Mr Popular looking forward to his next fight.

David McClellan boxes on ‘The Untouchables’ professional show sanctioned by the European Boxing Federation at Escapade on Saturday, June 11.

The bill is topped by Steve Ward defending his EBF Midlands Area cruiserweight title and also includes the return of former heavyweight contender Mark Krence.

McClellan had more than 200 supporters cheering him at the town-centre venue in March and sent them home happy by forcing a one-round retirement win.

He has extra incentive to climb the EBF rankings because became a proud dad this week.

McClellan (27) says tickets are selling fast for next month’s show in Chesterfield – he has already sold more than 150 tickets - and says his supporters will see a best-ever performance.

He had 86 amateur bouts before drifting away from the sport and returned to the ring to beat Mickey Murren in front of his home crowd in March.

McClennan said: “It went well, but I was a bit eager and didn’t feel that sharp. I hadn’t boxed for a long time and I’m just glad to get that fight out of the way.

I’m going to be a lot better when I box in June. It’s all been coming back to me in the gym.”

John Ashton, the former British, Commonwealth and European title challenger, is the head of promoters Raging Bull Promotions and was delighted with the sell-out crowd that squeezed into Escapade for the show in June.

McClellan added: “I want to keep fighting regularly and hopefully we can get another big crowd to the show next month and that will convince John to put on more shows in Chesterfield.”

Greg-Scott Briggs also boxes in front of his home crowd next month, along with James Knight, Drew Douglas, John Browse, Jamie Stout and Lee Renshaw.

Tickets are available from 07970-510646.
