‘We all need to start chipping in with goals,’ says Chesterfield midfielder Mark Randall

Mark Randall believes the whole team need to start chipping in with goals to help the Spireites in their pursuit of the top three in League Two.

The Chesterfield midfielder has two goals to his name this term and has pledged to assist the strikers more in the second half of the season.

The 23-year-old said it is unfair to heap all the responsibility on the forwards and has called on the rest of his team-mates to find the back of the net more often.

He said: “We can’t just rely on the strikers to score goals, as a whole team we have to start getting more.”

Randall has adopted a central midfield role whether in front of the back four alongside Sam Togwell or behind a lone striker under Paul Cook.

And the former Arsenal trainee said he is happy to play anywhere in the side so long as it helps the team.

“I’ve played just behind the strikers and enjoyed that. I think I probably suit that role a bit more,” he added.

“I like to get on the ball and I like to create opportunities and get forward as much as possible.

“If I’m in the middle with Sam I’m more than happy to put a shift in too, as a midfielder you have to put a bit in.”

Randall came off the bench in the win over fellow promotion hopefuls Northampton on Saturday and believes with some consistency Chesterfield can obtain their ultimate goal come the end of April.

He said: “We only need a few wins and we’ll be right up there. We know we can do it and that gives us confidence.”

Chesterfield’s League Two clash with Torquay United, originally scheduled for this afternoon (Saturday, January 19), was postponed yesterday lunchtime due to a waterlogged pitch.
