The excitement of an imminent first airing on national TV of the Chesterfield Panthers in a National Lottery promotional short was evident as the mini and junior section of the club returned to rugby after the summer break.
Many of the budding TV stars pulled on their boots again and with the weather providing a great day for the sport rugby was back on at Dunston and around 150 players had a great morning.
For the majority the season began with a training session, but the Chesterfield U14s went straight into action, taking on local rivals Ashfield for their first competitive game of the season.
In what turned out to be a most competitive game Panthers edged it with a 17-10 victory.
Tries from Joe Curley, Tom Hawkins and Finbar Irani plus a conversion from Harry Hole gave the Chesterfield team the victory.
With the Rugby World Cup starting later this month and increased interest in the sport all new players are welcome at the club.
Teams cater for players from six years-old upwards and any that are interested can find more details from Fred Pell on 01246 857480.
