Spire Boxing Academy’s new signing Roderick Smith doesn’t believe in doing things the easy way.
Rod had the chance to take on Sheffield’s Danny Savage at Queen’s Park Sports Centre on Sunday at the boxing extravaganze known at the Summer Showdown.
Smith had already beaten Savage, but chose instead to take on hard-punching Ekow Essuman.
Essumann defeated Smith inside three rounds in March to claim the ABA Midlands Area title.
Smith, 20, from Dronfield, said: “This is the fight I wanted to show the loss in the final was a blip. He will meet a different Rod Smith this time.”
Another big fight at Queen’s Park is between ‘Golden Boy’ Kristian Davey and Callum Parker when Davey makes the first defence of his Derbyshire Challenge belt.
Advance tickets are available at £10 adult £5 kids or £12/£8 on the door which opens at 5pm.
