The ground got way too deep for our selection yesterday. Now we turn to Newmarket handler John Gosden as he closes in on the trainers’ championship:

Tuesday 23rd October

NICKELS AND DIMES

Yarmouth 2.20 WIN

With the rain falling and the mud flying, it’s probably a good job that this two-year-old filly is a half-sister to a prolific winner over hurdles! She is proven in testing ground too, having finished a promising third on her debut in a respectable maiden at Leicester earlier this month, despite a tardy start. A sizeable daughter of former Group One winner Teofilo, she is expected to relish today’s extra furlong and add more prize-money to the season’s tally of leading trainer John Gosden. The Newmarket handler not only has a wonderful one-in-four strike-rate here at Yarmouth but he has also won this very race three times and had four others placed in the last ten years.
