And one of them, Steve ‘Nippa’ Finnegan, has been asked to captain the team, who will take on countries such as Australia, France, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cyprus and the Republic Of Ireland.

“What an honour to lead my team at my first Nations Cup,” said 50-year-old Steve, who has enjoyed two prolific years in blackball EBPF pool after switching from the world rules version of the sport.

He will be joined in Malta by a former captain of the team, Bob ‘Bobble’ Snell who, like Steve, has won everything there is to win at local level. Both play most of their pool at Lennon’s club in Chesterfield. After Malta, they have the European Championships and World Championships to look forward to.
