In the perfect advertisement for the League Nags Head and Chesterfield Town enthralled the spectators at Langer Lane in a rollercoaster Byron Cup quarter-final match.
Nags took the lead through Richard Pedley on 15 minutes when his shot bobbled to elude Town’s keeper John Styring. Dave Marshall hit the second for Nags on half-time.
Substitute Danny Rigby headed home for Town to make it 2-1 and then Shane Dickens rounded off a good Town move for 2-2.
Dickens hit the crossbar before Nags took the lead after defender Alex Harrison had his clearance rebound off Liam Moore into the top corner to give Nags a 3-2 lead.
Dean Spencer hit an unstoppabable left foot volley for Town to take the game into extra-time at 3-3.
With no further goals the game went to penalties. Nags won 5-4 in the shoot out after Dave Turner’s penalty was saved.
All Inn were in seventh heaven at Poolsbrook as they progressed to the next round with a superby display to see off visitors Tibshelf.
Much of All Inn’s dominance was down to the hard work of the midfield as they bossed the game throughout courtesy of Ash Morton, Mario Slater and Craig Humphries.
Morton also found the net four times to round off a superb individual performance. Also on target for All Inn were Craig Marples with a brace and one for Aquilano DeGirolamo.
Renishaw SC travelled to Shirebrook Rangers and were looking to progress to the semi-finals.
Renishaw had the best of the first-half creating several half chances and forcing a number of corners. Finally they found the net with a well-taken goal from Jake Curry, side-footing a looping volley over the keeper from the edge of the box.
However, Shirebrook were working hard and giving as good as they got without creating any real chances.
This was to change however, when goals from Callum Wilkinson and Adam Bailey stunned Renishaw and saw the home side progress the semi finals. Pictures from the first half are available at http://www.flickr.com/groups/1047473@N24/
